Solid Phenolic Resin Cleaning & Care Procedures

It is highly recommended to institute a regimen of monthly or quarterly inspections of all Solid Phenolic resin work surfaces, edges, joint / seams and epoxy sinks, plus bi-weekly or weekly cleanings to maintain the tops in the original finish and help ensure a safe, uncontaminated working environment.  The following list contains items suggested for regular cleaning and to handle most problems that occur.

  • Acetone or Paint Thinner
  • Crystal Simple Green
  • White Scotch Brite Pads (always use moist or wet)
  • Crystal Simple Green®; Scott’s liquid Gold; Murphy’s Oil (diluted); or Sheila Shine finish oil
  • Clean Rags or Sponges
  • Chamois Cloth
  • Mild Soap or Household Cleaner (non-abrasive)

Note: Never use wax or a polish containing wax on resin work surfaces or sinks.  Also, never use abrasive pads, powders or liquids (such as Soft Scrub) as dulling of the surface will result.

Resin Work Surface Care
Promptly wipe up all spills.  Acetone or mineral spirits should be used (where allowed) to thoroughly clean surfaces.  Apply and wipe away with a clean soft rag.

Using a mild soap (non-abrasive), clean the tops with a soapy solution and wipe dry with a clean soft rag.

After cleaning, apply a Crystal Simple Green mineral oil (or comparable household cleaning product) to the surface and exposed edges. An occasional application of finish oil can restore the luster to the surface and edges.  Too much oil can cloud the surface, therefore remove excess oils.

  • Apply oil by pouring the minimum amount of oil necessary to cover the immediate surface area onto a clean soft rag.
  • Thoroughly rub the oil onto the working surface, exposed edges and splash face and top edge, using a circular motion.
  • Wipe away excess oil with a clean rag.
  • A chamois can be used to enhance the desired sheen.
