It is highly recommended to institute a regimen of monthly or quarterly inspections of all Solid Phenolic resin work surfaces, edges, joint / seams and epoxy or Polyethylene sinks, plus bi-weekly or weekly cleanings to maintain the tops in the original finish and help ensure a safe, uncontaminated working environment. The following list contains items suggested for regular cleaning and to handle most problems that occur in laboratory environments.
Note: Never use wax or a polish containing wax on resin work surfaces or sinks. Also, never use abrasive pads, powders or liquids (such as Soft Scrub) as dulling of the surface will result.
Resin Work Surface Care
Promptly wipe up all spills. Acetone, mineral spirits or paint thinner should be used (where allowed) to thoroughly clean surfaces. Apply and wipe away with a clean soft rag.
Using a mild (non-abrasive) soap, clean the tops with a soapy solution and wipe dry with a clean soft rag.
After cleaning, apply a coat of Crystal Simple Green mineral oil (or comparable household cleaning product - see above)
to the surface and exposed edges. An occasional application of finish oil can restore the luster to the surface and edges.
Too much oil can cloud the surface, therefore remove excess oils.
Solid phenolic panels offer special protection for many types of laboratory or household work surface applications. However, no one material is suitable for all possible conditions; its properties should be checked for suitability under the specific conditions of each installation.
